This extension collects nothing. There is no server, no analytics, and no third-party code. Nothing you read or hear leaves your browser.

What is stored

Only the settings you create yourself:

• Reading speed
• Which voice you picked
• The highlight colour
• Whether you already answered the one optional question in the popup

Preferences are stored using Chrome’s own storage.sync API — held in your browser and synchronised by Chrome across devices where you are signed in to the same Chrome profile. The developer has no access to it.

What is not collected

• No browsing history
• No page content is collected by us, and the extension itself makes no network requests at all — but see “Voices” below: choosing one of Chrome’s network voices means Chrome sends the text being spoken to that voice’s provider
• No URLs
• No personal information
• No analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or usage statistics
• No advertising or tracking identifiers

Voices

Speech comes from chrome.tts, Chrome’s own text-to-speech. Chrome offers two kinds of voice and the popup shows them in two labelled groups. On this device: synthesised locally, the text never leaves your computer. Network voices: the engine is a remote service (Chrome marks these; the names usually start with “Google”) — choosing one means Chrome sends the text being spoken to that provider so it can be synthesised. That request is made by Chrome, not by this extension, which never sees or stores it. While such a voice is selected the popup says so. Some computers have only network voices available, and nothing is sent until you press Read.

Permissions

The extension installs without access to your websites. When you ask it to read (by clicking the toolbar icon, pressing the keyboard shortcut, or using the right-click menu), Chrome grants it access to that one tab, for that moment, so it can find the text, draw the highlight and scroll it into view. It never changes the page’s text or adds content to it, and the access is not kept. tts lets it use the speech engine already on your computer; storage keeps your preferences; contextMenus adds the right-click item.

Outside the extension

Three buttons in the popup open pages on our own website in a new tab, only when you click them: the pre-order button, the early-user button, and the “Answer” button under the optional question. Those pages count that a visit happened (date and path only — no cookie, no IP address, no identifier). The page Chrome opens when you remove the extension (see “When you uninstall”) is counted the same way. Payment, if you choose to pre-order, happens on Stripe’s checkout page, not inside the extension.

Data sharing

None. There is no backend to share data with, and no data is sold, transferred, or disclosed to any third party.

Data deletion

Uninstalling the extension removes all of its stored preferences.

When you uninstall

Chrome opens one page on our site (rehobothbuilds.com/p/tts-reader/goodbye) when the extension is removed. That page asks a single optional question — why you left — with five buttons. Nothing about you is sent when it opens; if you click a reason, only that reason is counted. No identifiers, no account, no cookies.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the version published with the extension and dated above.
